ECCLESIASTES 3:1-8
"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:"
WINTER...a time to build up....SNOW
It was Lander's first year on the mountain and Paul's last. The perfect ski day; 35 degrees, sunny, start at 11:00 AM, off the Mt. by 3:PM, no coat, long easy blue runs surrounded by tall pines and aspens, chili fries and a hot chocolate and not falling in Dummies Ditch.
We got Paul out skiing on his 40th birthday. He was celebrating several things last year; work is good, Mexico & horn hunting in April and he benched 335. This is his season to be strong and healthy.
Four teams means a time to get to play and watch a lot of basketball and a time to see kuku and tutu when they visit to watch games.
It is now Lander's time to play on a basketball team. He gets the ball and takes it straight to the hole. For a 6 year old, he has stellar lay up form. We will work on assists next year.
Dani played on her first boys team, dominating the boards and out running everyone on the court. She works hard, has become more physical and has a lot of fun.
Cody is becoming a better point guard and has a very good shot. It is great that he is getting the opportunity to be a leader for his team.
Jackson is getting stronger on the boards and running the floor pretty good for a big man. All the hours he and Paul have spent on drop steps and lifting is starting to pay off. It was nice to have him go to Brighton and play with better players on a daily basis.
We had a great time in New York for our annual mom daughter vacation.
We got to see everyone from both sides this Christmas season.
Our kids favorite people to hang with are their cousins.
SPRING... a time of peace....on the beach, by the pool or in the ocean....in MEXICO.
Paul's only wish for his 40th birthday was to go to Mexico. We fished, ate great food, snorkeled, explored, swam and relaxed in the sun. This may be our last time vacationing here, as the country continues to become unstable and more dangerous. It has been a good season of 18 years enjoying the beauty of this country. Adios Mexico y gracias por la bueno tiempo!
Despite King Ugabooga taking some poo pills and stinking up the place,
we had a good Easter decorating eggs, putting together puzzles, watching general conference
and tricking Kavika to sit on a wet sponge and kiss Paul's big toe.
SUMMER.....a time to love, a time to embrace, and a time to dance!
We LOVE *LOVE *LOVE the summertime!
Camping, boating, barbecuing, riding horses, fishing, surfing on the beach, white water rafting, celebrating birthdays & an anniversary, playing volleyball, football & basketball, swimming, music concerts, broadway shows, luau's, rafting, reunions, dancing, hiking, horn hunting, cliff jumping, warm summer nights, s'mores by the fire pit, rodeos, night games, flaming pig, .
I embrace the time I have with my ohana!!
JUNE:
After a week of visiting family and friends in Cali, we took our kids to our favorite beach, Thousand Steps. Then we headed over to the San Clemente Pier and ate at Fisherman's for clams and chowder. The views are spectacular when the sun is going down over the water.
JULY:
Boating at Lake Powell is an annual thing and this year we added two jet skis to the adventure. One thing that never seems to change is that we have to be towed for either running out of gas or as the case in this trip, the boat breaks down. Lucky for us, we were with friends who could tow the boat and only 2 hours away from the docks. Who wants to go this summer?
Bear Lake. Big lake, Big Storms. We had to have the locals bring our boat onto shore with the biggest tractor I have ever seen. We were too lazy to bring it in, even though we had been warned that storms roll in fast and sink boats all the time. We can check this place off of our bucket list.
I love this picture! I miss our tan skin.
AUGUST:
A surprise birthday party for Jackson Aug. 8th. The Fonua's pulled off an impromtu luau and impressed our friends. This is turning into an annual event.
The Lion King broadway show in SLC. I wish I had taken Jackson and Cody.
It was their favorite movie when they were 3 and 4 years old.
They especially loved to sing,"I just can't wait to be king."
FALL...a time to keep
There are so many things about this 2010 fall season that I will keep close to my heart.
Football, fall colors, ranch time, hiking in the fall beauty, sharing our home with family,
going to the temple and spending a lot of time with people we love.
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL 2010-2011
Jackson Paulo 15 years old on August 8th
Jackson is now a blue and orange Bengal. He started at left offensive tackle on the Brighton sophomore team in August. He dressed for a few varsity games and played some downs on defense, hmmmm. He also made the Brighton sophomore basketball team in November. Both his teams were very successful and Jackson's coaches are pleased that he chose Brighton. He loves when people ask him how tall he is, like it's a talent to be 6'5. I am proud to say that he has good study skills, keeping a 3.9 GPA and is disciplined with his work outs, thanks to his personal weight trainer/nutritionist/dad who has him on the weight gain, get strong program with a diet of protein supplements, eating all day and building muscle in the gym. When Jacks has down time he loves to watch cartoons and play with legos, which reminds me that he is still a child at heart. He loves to hug his family by picking them up and saying,"Anaconda Squeeze" Nacho style and he always remembers to say "I love you" when he kisses me goodnight.
Cody Likeke 14 years old on November 13th
Cody is in his final year as a Park City Miner. It was hard to get used to not seeing Cody carry the ball as much as he has in the past, so he focused on his defense and working hard every practice. When he was given the chance to run the ball, or when he picked a pass on defense, he always ended up in the end zone. I am proud that he kept his head up and stayed focused. Basketball started in November again and he was back leading his team at the point. Cody loves to go to the church gym and practice his shot and ball handling skills. Maybe someday he will actually like to go to church as well. His leaders see something in him, he was called to be the president of his deacon quorum. He also has a 3.9 GPA, gets his work done without us nagging him and likes to do his own laundry. Cody has a sweet relationship with all his family members, we just tend to get on his nerves at times. When Cody is good, he is very good, but when he is bad, he is horrid. I think he gets this from his father.
Danielle Dorotea 11 years old on Feb 2nd
Dani plays volleyball in the fall and spring, and basketball in the winter. I love to watch her play sports, she works hard and makes it look really good. She is easy to coach and fun to have on the court. Because I run the volleyball program in PC, she gets the opportunity to help with the younger campers. Parents are always commenting on how much their daughters love her and how impressed they are with her coaching abilities. Dani graduated from elementary last spring and now attends middle school. Her room is always a mess, she sneaks make up, loves to take pictures of herself, at times loses it emotionally, but, she has a 3.8 GPA, takes care of her work without being asked, practices her piano better than the boys ever did, makes sure everyone is nice to each other, sings & dances around the house, takes care of her school issued laptop, has a positive attitude about reading scripture & going to church, keeps her dad in check, makes her own school lunch, shows affection & love her parents & brothers and brings a sweet spirit to the home with her awesome prayers.
Lander Kane 7 years old on December 30th
Lander played soccer, flag football, volleyball and basketball last fall. You can never play too many sports in one season. He figured out how to serve from the service line, ran for 6 touchdowns, was a leading scorer in basketball, but was awful in soccer. That is ok, we don't like soccer any how. I told Paul he needs to train him up as a quarterback, pass on the knowledge. Lander's 1st grade teacher says he is an outstanding student that takes his time and always does his best work. He loves to bring home success slips from school to show that a teacher noticed him being caring, respectful, responsible or honest and looks forward to spirit days when he can wear his shirt & sweats that say "I am a hawk and I rock!" He is the typical baby of the family, excelling at things that he has been exposed to early from older siblings, good at throwing a fit when he does not get his way. He loves to hunt with his dad, wrestle with Jackson, practice basketball with Cody, dance with Dani and snuggle with his mom. Even though it gives me bad sleeps, I love when he climbs in bed with us in the middle of the night.
I would love to keep this one younger a little bit longer.
Time passes too quickly for this mama.
Congrats on this new season in your lives! Adam State is lucky to have you.
We had some visitors this past fall, Jason, Carol and the girls moved in for a month and the moose moved into our yard for three months. It was nice to have littles in the house again. I got to go on adventures to the store or bus stop with Kalele. We enjoyed Carol's homemade jam, granola & bread. How nice it was to have that time to get to know Jason, Carol and the girls better. I am impressed with how Carol and the girls are managing all the changes.
Park City had the longest and most colorful fall.
I am grateful that I have time to hike every day in the hills around our home.
We are blessed to enjoy the fruits of the labors of our ranch hands. They raise the sheep, cut the grass, keep the garden and watch over the horses. Denado taught me to make a really good Peruvian ceviche and he and his brother Armarillo help Jackson with his spanish.
