Matt, Hallie, Kai, and Makayla
Makayla is doing well and she is handling school, sports, and her social life like a champ but she has decided to take a new route in her life. This summer she will be joining the peace corp and heading to Africa to help the people of Somalia. She will be working on the pirate boats. At the same time of helping them get on track at home she will be learning a new trade at sea.
Kai is excited that the past year is over and he enjoyed every minute of it. He loved it when he shared the house with his favorite Uncle Jason. He has been getting stronger and stronger every day. He works out a lot and he has only beat me up a few times. I thought I could take him in a wrestling match but he was to strong and he pinned me to the ground and let doug lick my face. He can't wait to go on a mission and come home so that he can seek his dream job as a Sumo Wrestler.
Hallie is working hard and cutting hair like mad. She has been bagging the hair of all her clients and saving it for a special project. Stay tuned for you christmas presents. Only a little hint but it has to do with crochet and something you put on to keep your feet warm.
Well I am doing good and working hard at being #1 in the world on Call of Duty. I have been practicing a lot since November. I think I am about there to sell the business and live my dream as traveling mime. I have got an act that will leave everyone speechless. Ask me next time you have family home evening and I will be glad to come to your home and perform it for you and your family.
Well no pictures this year since I now know like the amish that if you take pictures of yourself it is like capturing an image. So please don't take because I don't want you worshipping my image.

Fonua's 2011
Ok JK from my first attempt!
Dean and I are still married 23 years now it will be 24 this December 29, same date as Likeke and Jennifer! So every anniversary we can think of each other! Ha! And when we celebrate Dean's big birthday October 8 this year he will be the big 45 we will be thinking of Keegan and Eurika's 1st anniversary! Wow we have such a big family we were bound to share dates that celebrate events in our life! So li and Keegan be thinking of us too!
This year Dean was made a high councilman and he had to speak in our ward! After his dad spoke Kavika made me feel better by saying ok mom you might speak too long but dad is a snoozer! Dean said hey have to live up to the boring council guy speaking! He really does a good job however!
Kiana is in college! It took a bit of convincing (we had to take her back 3 times) but she is there and she seems to be doing great!
Kavika is a sophomore and is focusing only on football! After convincing mom to quite basketball and baseball, I finally gave in and let him do what he wanted! I still think he will regret it! Just sayin! He just got back from the Simplot Games! Aunt Sherry was there to start his races! He is looking forward to football next year and is doing track right now! Hopefully he can get a scholarship like his sister! He was also asked to represent the best in the state of Utah High School Football down in Las Vegas going to a 7 on 7 tournament, the Bingham coach will be coaching the team. He is very excited and we are to, because of his injury his sophomore year it was a very disappointing football season for 2011. He is a great kid with a big heart. What I love about him most he always says he is sorry and still gives me a hug and kiss!
Kavehi is my little guy with a big heart too! Everyone loves him, adults and kids. He isn't as athletic minded as his brother but in school he is much smarter! The big joke at our house is Kavehi can spell better than Kavika! We tried to get Kavika to do a spelling bee against Kavehi! Kavika would not do it! Dean Tells Kavehi everyday that he will be the Doctor in our family! Kavehi is 10 playing basketball, baseball, and soccer! Kavehi is also playing the piano and getting very good! Kavehi loves life and gives the best prayers ever! They come from the heart and he is always thinking of others, I love him very much!
Kealani is 7 and our only spitfire at home now! We got one off now only one to go! Ha JK! But not really! She is playing basketball and doesn't like it! But she does like that she is the tallest in the entire syracuse (3 elementary schools), 1st grade! Everyone always asks us if her and Kavehi are twins? She was taking gymnastics but is taking a break during basketball. Kealani loves bags, lots and lots of bags. If any of you have seen her room it looks really messy, but its not messy, just picture a 100 things all over her dressers, bench, floor along the wall, in a row lined up in there proper place! Its organized but messy, I can't explain it unless you have seen it. I think she is a little OCDC! Since I have gone back to work she loves to help clean house! She has organized by pantry in the Kitchen, cleaned the fridge, cleans the bathrooms, unloads the dishwasher without complaining????? And many other things? Maybe she will be a professional housekeeper someday???? Anyway, she loves to sing and dance too! Maybe she will follow in her sisters footsteps, with singing that is!
Yes I have started a new job! Who new I would go to school get a degree and go work at a Hallmark Store??? But I really like it, the people our nice and friendly, customers and co-workers! I am still the YW president and it has been more difficult doing that and working full time and being a mom full time! Dean has helped out and so has Kavika. I am proud to say we are still alive and healthy for another year! I count my blessings everyday! I gave this quote to my girls today for there lesson on Attitude, so I will leave you the same quote for this 2012 year! Life is God's Gift to us. What we do with our Life is our Gift to God. President Harald B Lee.

College Life ♥ Kiana V. Fonua
Well this is going to be my first time actually writing this for myself, so wish me luck!
February 17, 2012 Karl Williams flew to Colorado (me still thinking he was in Utah at the time) and surprised me before my basketball game, "PROPOSING" in front of all my close friends, making me Mrs. Williams to be:) I figured I should start with the best and biggest news first!!!!!!!! ♥ we won't be having the wedding until summer of 2013 so I hope and pray everyone will be there!!:) I love him so much and I know the whole family will too! I cant wait for you all to meet him! :)
I am fulfilling my dream of playing college basketball and signed with Otero Junior College located in a small town in Colorado called La Junta in April of 2011. I love every second of it, except for the 20 credit hours I miserably accepted my first semester, no home cooked meals, and an hour commute to any type of restaurant or shopping outlet. :/ I am currently working on my major in journalism and communications to be a sports analysis.
My roommate and I are best friends and practically sisters:) My close friends are Hannah Willis/Texas, Abra Gonzales/Texas, Meredith Barnes/Colorado, Tonje Milde/Norway, and Sam Farro/Colorado. Living in a such a small town we have become a master at ping pong, pool table and table hockey on our spare time. although, most of our time is spent in our room eating, hanging out, having study group or watching movies. On special occasions we make an hour commute and have a girls night out to a fun little dance club, movies, or the mall.
That's just a small summary of whats happening with my life now that I am a college gal:) I miss and love everyone so so much!!! Absolutely can't wait for the next family reunion hopefully a.s.a.p! MUWAH!!! xoxoxoxo ♥
oh... my mom wanted me to put these pictures up and said she will get to writing hahaha.:)

Keegan and Eurica Kane Family
Braxton is also loves football and was a starting linebacker at Hillcrest High School on the Freshman team. He had a great season only losing one game to Highland and was the undefeated conference champs. Brax also plays baseball, I only saw a couple of his games but I think he should definitely continue playing cause it comes very natural to him and he is a great catcher and hitter. Like Koa he is very smart but needs to work on those grades in school!
Mikly continues to dance, dance, dance and more dance. Still only an eighth grader but shines on the dance floor among all the older high school girls. Always dancing, singing or listening to music she has way to much energy. She is definitely not daddy’s little girl anymore and has grown into a beautiful young lady. She works very hard in school and is a social butterfly, but needs to slow down on the boy craziness!
Braydon is one funny kid, he has a great sense of humor and really makes me laugh! Matt you owe him 5 bucks, he’s been asking me all week if we’ll see you or not! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a kid like to read on his own as much as he does. He plays basketball and baseball but his favorite is also football. Like his two brother he also played linebacker as well as a number of other positions. His team didn’t fare so well but he was one of the better players on the team so them moved him around on the field where he was the most needed. He is a very active and can’t wait till it’s warm to use his new long board he just got for his 11th birthday
Marissa is still the loving, hugging I love you youngest. She is becoming a great little dancer and works hard to be as good as her big sister. Marissa is also the star on her volleyball and basketball teams. She took a little break this season from basketball and her team has really missed her. Get back on the court girlJ Like Braydon she is a great student and gets straight A’s. She always has a lot going on, but there’s never enough not to have a sleepover with someone, anyone. It’s always a can I call Paige, or how about Cara, or maybe Avery, or what about ……………, cmon dad, please!
Well That’s Plenty from Me Love all of you and have a Greatttt Year!!!!!!!

These are a Few of Mikki's Favorite Things in 2011
so is the website it came from, abountifulkitchen.com
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1 egg
1 teaspoon almond extract
½ teaspoon vanilla
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 ½ cups flour
Cream butter, cream cheese and sugar. Add egg, almond extract and vanilla, blend until smooth. Mix in all of the dry ingredients. Do not over mix. Grease a jelly roll pan with cooking spray. Spread the dough into the pan with a long knife. I usually sprinkle some flour on the dough, so it is easier to spread. You can also use a mini rolling pin (floured) to spread the dough. Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes. Cook just until golden brown.
Let cool completely.
Frosting:
½ cup butter, softened
4 oz cream cheese, softened
3 ½ cups powdered sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
dash of salt
milk or half and half
food coloring, if desired
Cream the butter, cream cheese and sugar in a large mixing bowl. Add the vanilla and salt. Add milk a little at a time, until the frosting is spreading consistency.
SEA BASS with Rock shrimp over squash with butter sauce. I usually speed eat, but not tonight, I savored this baby for at least 30 minutes. The best part about, it was free. Park City runs two for one deals all summer through fall. We have been enjoying the best food our city has to offer for a decade, at half the price. Actually, the best part about it was going out with my main man, Pauly B. We have eaten some great food, with good people and have had some fantastic times in PC. I am so grateful that one, we did not sale our house and two, that we are right where we should be, in this awesome little ski town, where every season of the year gives us something beautiful to look at.
Second thing that comes to mind is FISHERMAN'S on San Clemente Pier in Cali.
A bucket of clams, chowder in a sourdough bowl, oyster shooters, and early bird special of all you can eat tacos. Christmas Eve we tried their peanut butter pie. Hello, it was at least a foot high and yummylicious.
Our visits in April and December were incredibly warm days with gorgeous sunsets. The kids caught crabs on the beach, watched a man pull up a sting ray from the pier and we always walk away loving our life a little bit more.
FYI Paul lived in San Clemente in high school and our uncle Bob Barton lives there with Grandma Turtle (Barton).
There is good fishing on the nearby beaches and our favorite beach, Thousand Steps is right up the road, where we stop to fish and play before dinner on the pier. A little piece of heaven resides below 258 steps. The walk up gets your heart pumpin' & helps ready our appetite for the feast at Fisherman's.
Truly, a sight to behold on Christmas Eve!
Lord, let your light, light up your face
Shine on us
Lord, let your grace, grace from your hand
Fall on us
Lord, let your love, love with no end
Come over us
That we may be saved
That we may have life
To find our way in the darkest night
Let your light, shine on us
-Hilary Weeks
FInally, for my 40th birthday & our 19th anniversary, the Barton's splurged on a family vacae to MAUI. We dined at a quaint little joint in Lahaina, MALA Ocean Tavern. Paul & I shared a fantastic whole wok fried OPAKAPAKA with ginger garlic black bean sauce, over mashed purple potatoes, with snap peas & shitake mushrooms. The owner/chef Mark Ellman also published the book, PRACTICE ALOHA Secrets to Living Life Hawaiian Style. It includes the recipe for his signature dessert, Caramel Miranda. We tried it on our last day. Look it up to try and don't forget the coquitos (baby coconuts).
The experience was like wonderful dream, turtles swimming near the shore, the sun going down over the ocean, tiki lights burning, the sound of the waves lapping on the rocks & i swear I heard the music of a ukelele in the far distance somewhere.
DA' KITCHEN was the family favorite of the week. Perfectly fried chips & fish. Tasty teriyaki beef with rice & a sauce that comes close to dad's. It was the last food we ate before we bid farewell to that island paradise. We had a fantastic week exploring, swimming, spear fishing, snorkeling, hunting chameleons, eating, boogy boarding, taking in breathtaking views, one after another & practicing aloha.
When are we all going?
About those beautiful things to look at in Park City,
here are a few of my FAVORITE VIEWS of 2011
Our school offers a ski program for the kids on Fridays. I volunteer, so I get to ski when they are in their lessons. We were unable to participate this year with all our Friday basketball games, but Lander & I are definitely hitting the slopes & cross country skiing track in March for one of my favorite winter activities.
Oh how I love to SNOWSHOE & they love to SLED.
The Moose spend a lot of time in our back, front & side yard all summer.
Fav moose day was when this young male stayed for several hours. He tolerated Sadie's badgering & they even took a nap together.
THIS IS MY FAV VIEW of 2011!
love, love, love our trails!
I hike with Sadie almost every day in the fall.
Most adventures are a hop, skip & jump away from our front door.
I am so grateful we still live in Park City. Going on 18 years.
THIS IS MY FAVORITE PLACE TO LIVE!
I am so grateful for all the time we got to spend as a family this past year. Thanks mom & dad for coming to games, celebrating bdays, bringing us together, serving a mission that undoubtedly blessed this ohana and for completely & profoundly loving us. I leave you with the beautiful words of Pi'ilani Schneider in Practicing Aloha (pg68).
Aloha is Love.
We've been blessed to live with aloha. We are lucky we never had to "practice" it! We were raised with the spirit of loving each other unconditionally. We were taught by example. Now we must pass this on, by example. If you want to know aloha, please, give it yourself, but expect nothing in return. You give because you love and for no other reason.
