Norman & Vicki 2009
First time we have travel to the island of Maui [island where great grandpa - Mathew H. Kane was married at]. We traveled with Dale & Sybil Letham, stayed in Kehei & had a "excellent" time in the sun and on the beach, walked every morning in 70 degree weather and traveled the entire island and saw; 1. Haleakala [biggest volcano crater] spectacular drive and view, Vicki is touching the Volcanoes of Mana Loa & Mana Kea [Big Island is shown in the background] & I touched the sacred Silver Sword. 2. Drove the Road to Hana [all day drive], saw the Oheo Pools. 3. We ate at the Old Lahaina Luau [outdoor meal & show-very good]. 4. watched the Warreen & Annabelle's Magic show [excellent entertainment] in Lahiana, 5. traveled around the East portion of Maui [saw some great Golf Courses and scenery of shorelines]. 5. Maui Ocean Center/Aquarium-excellent place. 6. Catamaran [Pride of Maui] ride out to Molokini to "snorkel" -enjoyable day in sun & ocean, very memorable experience watching the Whales. We took a "hopper flight" to Kona to see April & Eric Edmonds[1/2 sister] and visit the family 3 acres of property that they are cleaning up and adding a place to stay in. Love seeing Ohana members.
Another first for Mom & I was an Alaskan Cruise: we left beautiful Seattle on June 21st on the Princess Cruise ship "Star Princess" on a cabin that we could look out onto the ocean or the seashores of islands as we traveled by the "Inside Passage" trip to the southern portion of Alaska. 1st port of call was Ketchikan, wettest city in Alaska, seeing many types of Totem poles and being entertained by the "Great Alskan Lumberjack Show". Got up early and saw the inlet Glacier with several icebergs with seals close by and then the Cruise ship turned "amazingly 180 degrees and arrived in Juneau [capitol of Alaska] and toured the amazing Mendenhall Glacier. That night we traveled to Skagway and took the White Pass & Yukon Route Train Ride; a very worthwhile, mountainess trip from sea level to 3,000 feet, through tunnels, riding along side sharp turns and riding next many turns. Our last stop was Victoria , British Columbia we saw the amazing Butchart Gardens, carved out of lime stone quarry. On board the food each night was superb, entertained with "ice carvings and fruit/vegtable creative works", got to play bingo and enjoyed every moment of this trip with my favorite companion=Vicki.
We watched many of grand kids/keiki's through out the year; Kiana playing at the State BB tournament in February & singing at Kavehi's baptism, Volleyball in the spring & fall with Makayla, Kavika in baseball, football and basketball, Kaden playing BB in Virginia in July, Kai in football, Koa & Jackson with undefeated football seasons, Cody winning the league Football championship, Kavehi playing football then being Baptized an hour after the game. Hours watching Saturday Basketball with Marissa, Mikelyn, Makayla, Cody, Jackson & Dani [Lander is always around watching his older brothers & sister play]; your day will come Lander. I watched Jacques play in the NAIA basketball championships in Kansas City, Missouri during the beginning of March Madness. We watched Marissa and Mikelyn perform on stage & Mikelyn dance at the Stadium of Fire [BYU] on July 4th. Baby Blessing of our 19th grand child, Carter Kane in Hurricane. Vicki & I enjoy Thanksgiving dinner with all of the keiki's and grand children [especially seeing Kaden, Keawe & Kalea the California gang]. We even spent a couple of quality weeks with Kalele in June. Did I forget to give everyone their $2 bill last year?
Dorothy B Nelson May, my favorite Mom left us in November to be with Richard Allen May. Our memories are still vivid; how talented of a person she was and how important we can be in carrying on the legacy of Love, Compassion and her Work ethics she possessed. WE miss you Mom!
ALOHA, Mom & Dad
